Car fires in the Famagusta district

Two cars were damaged by fire 20 minutes apart during the early hours of Monday in the Famagusta district, police said.

At around 2am in Sotira, a 26-year-old car owner’s mother called the fire service after she noticed her son’s car, which was parked in front of their home was ablaze. Fire-fighters extinguished the fire but not before damage had been caused to the rear of the vehicle.

Twenty minutes later, at around 2.20am, a car belonging to a 28-year-old woman, which was parked behind a nightclub in Paralimni caught on fire. The car was almost destroyed before fire-fighters were able to extinguish the blaze.

Investigations are due to take place later on Monday to establish the causes of both fires, police said.
