78,000 jobless at end of December

Unemployment in Cyprus reached 17.5 per cent of the active workforce, and in absolute numbers 78,000 people  were jobless in December, data released on Friday by Eurostat showed.

According to Eurostat’s seasonally adjusted data average unemployment in December stood at 18.4 per cent for men, 16.6 per cent  for women and 40.8 per cent  for young people under 25.

In the eurozone, average unemployment for men stood at 12.0 per cent, for women at 12.1 per cent and for young people under 25 at 23.8 per cent.
