A minute with John Kaponi National Chairman of Cyprus Future

Where do you live?
Beverly Hills aka Southgate north London, with my happy family!

Best childhood memory?
Meeting Jimmy Connors at Wimbledon when I was 14 years old. My thoughts were “awesome”.

Most frequented restaurant and absolute favourite dish? What food would you really turn your nose up to?
Vrisaki, no messing around, there is only one thing to eat pork souvlaki in the pitta, nothing touches it.
What annoys me is when you go and eat at a supposedly “continental restaurant” and they serve you raw lamb, because “that’s how it’s meant to be cooked”.

What did you have for breakfast?
Pomegranate, cucumber, cheese, egg and lemon tea

Would you class yourself as a day or night person? What’s your idea of the perfect night/day out?
Used to be nocturnal waiting for the first editions of the newspapers to come out, but now happily day person, need my eight hours in bed at night. Perfect night/day out is to have my family and friends around me, good wine, good food, good conversation some good music…

Best book ever read?
Highly recommend the book by the legendary George Lois Damn Good Advice. I try to live by the great mans teachings: “To create great work you need 1% inspiration, 9% Perspiration, 90% Justification”.

Favourite film of all time?
With a name like Kaponi, is there any other choice than The Godfather, come on!

Favourite holiday destination? What’s your dream trip?
Love Greece, the most blessed country in the world, so love Athens, going deep in Macedonia just witnessing the natural beauty of this country. Travel quite regularly so don’t have a burning desire for any particular country, but bizarrely I am very attracted to visit “mother Africa” and to go to Nigeria and Kenya.

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
Ed Sheeran – I See Fire

What is always in your fridge?
Greek yoghurt

Dream house: rural retreat or urban dwelling? Where would it be, what would it be like?
Would love to have a house in my father’s village in Diorios, Kyrenia and would love a Canadian style wood lodge with a farm of Cypriot goats like my grandfather Yianni had when he lived in the village.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
I am disappointed by the people who I used to look up to when I actually met them, but I would like to meet Matt Damon and see if I could make him a politician with global reach.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
Enjoy every minute, pray, thank God for the life I have been given and smile and laugh at the good times.

What is your greatest fear?
Not very happy with deep water…

Tell me a joke…
“Muslim sailors reached the American continent 314 years before Columbus, in 1178” – President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
