Fire burns five cars in Nicosia

Residents of a Nicosia apartment building had to abandon their flats on Tuesday night after a fire broke out in the parking lot, burning five cars.

One person had to be rescued from their second-floor apartment using a platform, the fire service said, but no injuries were reported.

The fire broke out at around 9pm in the parking lot of a building on Ayias Elenis Street in Aglandjia. It burned five cars and damaged the building’s paintwork, the fire service said.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation with officials not ruling out foul play.
