Five more days to apply for Stelios awards

Stelios Haji-Ioannou

The deadline for applying to the Cyprus bi-communal awards by the Stelios Philanthropic Foundation is on Tuesday, September 15, it was announced on Thursday.

With the grand total of grants to be given this year at €300,000, the awards are now bigger than ever and bring the cumulative total to €1.5 million over the past seven years.

There will be 30 winning bi-communal teams which must include at least one Greek Cypriot and one Turkish Cypriot, and each team stands to get €10,000, the foundation said.

Both must be born in Cyprus. Forming new teams and friendships is encouraged, and past winners can also apply.

They need to work together in a venture and their entrepreneurial activities must be based in Cyprus and available to customers throughout the island.

The size of the venture and its profitability will be used as additional criteria in selecting the teams who will earn the money, however, not-for-profit endeavours will also be considered as applicants, as long as the criteria above are met and provided the activities are conducted in a venture-like manner.

So far 35 applications have been received.

The awards ceremony will take place on October 30 at the premises of Stelios Philanthropic Foundation, located in the bi-communal café in Nicosia old town.
