Increased dust in the atmosphere

Increased dust levels were recorded in the atmosphere on Tuesday, the department of labour inspection (DLI) warned.

The average hourly concentration of dust particles should not exceed 50 μg/m³ under the current legislation. This was exceeded in most areas.

At 11am, the concentration was 447.2 μg/m³ in Larnaca, 268.2 μg/m³ in Limassol, 109.2 μg/m³ in Nicosia and  96.2 μg/m³ in Paphos.

Due to the small size of the dust particles and the possible impact on human health, the department advised the public and particularly children, the ill, and the elderly to avoid spending time outside until the phenomenon subsides.

In addition, it is recommended that employers assess the risk for their employees and workers should use appropriate personal protection.
