St. Patrick’s Day, time to be jolly

On a given day around the world, people consume approximately 7.5 million pints of Guinness.

St. Patrick’s Day is an exception, however, when consumption goes through the roof, reaching about 13 million pints. That’s enough to fill 60 percent of the Empire State Building.

Americans really tend to embrace Ireland’s national holiday and this year, 125 million of them are planning to celebrate it.

The National Retail Federation forecasts overall U.S. St. Patrick’s Day spending will hit $4.4 billion this year, a slight decline on 2015. 82 percent of American consumers plan on wearing green, 21.1 percent are going to attend a private party and each of them will spend $35.37 on average.
