One more big ballet

The month of July will have a big start in Limassol with two performances of Swan Lake by the Hermitage Ballet Theatre of Saint Petersburg.

The shows are part of the 17th Big Ballet performances organised by the Limassol municipality. Each year the municipality gives us the chance to watch performances by leading ballet groups from around the world, including Bolshoi, Kirov, Eifman, Bejart, Batsheva and others.

This year the municipality will bring the Hermitage Ballet Theatre of Saint Petersburg to the Cypriot stage for the first time. Forty performers will take a break from performing at the Hermitage theatre – located within the famous museum in Saint Petersburg – to share their version of Pyotr Ilyrich Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

The fable fantasy ballet in three acts and four scenes, is based on a German fairy tale, and tells of Prince Siegfried, who goes hunting and falls in love with Princess Odette. The only problem is that the princess is under a magic spell to be a swan by day and a young woman at night.
