Police arrested a man in Limassol on Thursday in connection with theft and illegal possession of property.

The suspect, 24, entered a Limassol bookshop at around 12.30pm and stayed there for around half an hour.

The shop’s manager discreetly watched him when he detected that some objects were hidden under the customer’s clothes.

When the man left he followed him while a colleague informed him that items had been stolen from the premises.

The 24-year-old soon realised that he was being followed and fled.

Later on, after obtaining a description, police officers on bicycles located and intercepted the suspect.

During a body search officers found gold and silver items which had been stolen from the shop and other valuables. When questioned the suspect refused to say how they came to be in his possession.
