Antenna Group and K-Cineplex Cinemas have teamed up to broadcast the Tony award-winning theatrical production of The King and I, directed by Bartlett Sher.
The prized musical in a brand new theatrical production at the London Palladium theatre last summer, is coming for a single broadcast at K-Cineplex Nicosia on Saturday.
It’s a production by leading creators Rodgers and Hammerstein, starring Kelli O’Hara in the role of Anna and Ken Watanabe in the role of the King, in a performance that honoured both of them with great reviews, Tony awards and recurring sold out performances in New York and London.
Set in 1860s Bangkok, the musical tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist King, in an imperialistic world, brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.
The show includes a well-known repertoire full of classic melodies, including Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You and of course Shall We Dance.
It is said to be a spectacular production with performances that include more than 50 actors on stage and revives the golden age of romantic musicals in a production that is rightly considered the ‘king’ of musical.
The screening lasts three hours with one interval and includes English subtitles.
