Man arrested in connection with extortion

Paphos police arrested a man on Wednesday in connection with extorting of a large amount of money from an older man.

A 57-year-old resident of the Paphos district reported to police that a 38-year-old man was constantly demanding money from him.

The man had borrowed €10,500 from him in July 2017, he said, but so far had paid him back €33,600.

He said he was being threatened and the 38-year-old demanded to be paid another €13,000.

The suspect was arrested in the afternoon to facilitate further investigations.
