Nicosia street to get €2 million revamp

A project to revamp Kyriakou Matsi Avenue in Nicosia is set to begin, the municipality announced on Tuesday.

The road begins from the roundabout of the presidential palace and heads south into the city.

The municipality said that the project seeks to better traffic conditions on the road, and to aid pedestrians and people with disabilities.

“The character of the road will remain the same with the high cypress trees, while the project will significantly enhance the greenery by planting a large number of large trees,” the municipality said.

Works will include new pavement in both directions, and the creation of parking areas near the road. Crossings will be constructed that will be accessible for people with disabilities.

Two new bus stops will be constructed that will include information points for the public.

An underground fiber optic network will be installed, to support smart city systems, including smart car parking management, environmental data collection, and WiFi.

New high-efficiency street lamps will be installed as well.

Work will start on September 9 and will cost approximately €2.6 million. It is expected to last for 15 months.
