Injured EAC workers to be treated abroad

Two workers who were injured in Thursday’s blast at an electricity sub-station will be transferred to Athens and Leipzig for further treatment.

According to reports, the two workers from the electricity authority (EAC) are intubated at Nicosia general hospital, as their condition is very serious.

They are due to be transferred abroad this afternoon, EAC spokesperson Christina Papadopoulos told CNA – noting that they will be accompanied by family members.

It was still not clear what caused the explosion at the Latsia sub-station as the men were carrying out scheduled maintenance.

No further information was provided as to why they need treatment abroad, but the 48-year-old is to be treated in Athens at a hospital specialising in burns – while the 40-year-old is being taken to Leipzig, with an unknown condition.
