Though a large number of patients are presently in intensive care units (ICUs), the situation in state hospitals remains manageable, spokesperson for state health services organisation (Okypy), Charalambos Charilaou said on Wednesday.

According to Charilaou, the number of patients with Covid-19 in state hospitals is still high and they are working to secure more beds.

“Despite the difficulties, the situation is manageable,” he told CNA.

On Tuesday, it was announced that 289 patients were in the hospital with the virus, 98 of them in serious condition including 40 who were intubated.

“We hope that in the coming days there will be stabilisation and we will see a reduction in the number of patients,” he noted.

“What is worrying, is the large increase in the number of patients in the Intensive Care Unit,” he said.

He recalled the decree in force that postpones all non-emergencies cases for both the private and the public sector.

“If we have a new wave in autumn, the agency is ready to fold an action plan, which it seems ready to deal with any situation,” he concluded.
