A vehicle from the department of water development in Paphos was set on fire after the engine and gearbox were stolen, police said on Sunday.

The vehicle was stolen sometime between Friday and Saturday, police said from a fenced off section where the vehicles are kept in Paphos.

A number of spare parts, as well as the engine and gear box were removed and then set on fire in Limassol at around 11pm on Saturday. The vehicle was found on the Ypsonas road towards Kouris dam.

Limassol CID, which is handling the case suspects the car was taken to the specific point with the help of another vehicle and was deliberately set on fire to destroy it entirely.

Investigations continue.
