New exhibition features local talent and projects on social issues

It hasn’t been the easiest year for creatives yet new projects, fresh approaches and more issues have seen the spotlight as Cyprus’ creative world retakes the stage, and a new exhibition aims to feature local artists and creative projects. Bringing together several art expressions and practices, they meet for a common goal – to showcase social matters. This is the Social Awareness Project.

Organised by the After:noon/project, a Nicosia-based communal initiative that aims to support art, music and urban culture, the Social Awareness Project arrives on November 12 and 13.

“After a struggling period for artists and creators,” says the Afternoon Team, “it’s time to organise an event for the exhibition and promotion of art and creative projects showcasing social matters. The Social Awareness Project is a conscientious selection of art pieces and projects communicating social issues and alarm society about equality, individualism, diversity, social acceptance, disorders, nature etc.”

Over two days at the Strovolos Cultural Centre creatives selected through an open call will gather to showcase their work. Some pieces will be exhibited there physically while others will present their work through videography in the projection room set up. While the exhibition is running, the outdoor space of the venue will be available for drinks accompanied with Ambient and Minimal Techno music by Barking Cats Radio and its residents, for a fully sensory and communal gathering.
