Time for jazz and world music

Limassol has no shortage of live music events although the end of the month has something bigger in store as the 8th Cyprus Jazz and World Music Showcase returns. Embraced by music fans and artists alike, the showcase will once again dress Limassol in global sounds and jazzy melodies.

Taking place on November 26 and 27 and organised by the Cultural Services of the ministry of education, the Music Information Center and the Rialto Theatre, the showcase aims at highlighting and promoting the most important artists of Jazz and World Music in Cyprus.

The 8th edition will feature a total of 10 bands consisting of more than 40 musicians. Eight bands will present their new work at the Rialto Theatre and two will be presented in the upgraded and landscaped space of ArtStudio55 next to the theatre. Alongside the festival’s main programme, a series of side events will be held, such as discussions with guests from abroad, workshops and jam sessions.

The showcase will begin at Rialto on November 26 with the first band taking the stage at 7.30pm. Bands The French Experience, Social Plexus, Ermis Michail – Electric World and Macumba are scheduled for the first day while at Art Studio 55, from 10pm the Nastazio Goumas Trio will perform their set. The following day, Trio Rondine, the Odysseas Toumazou Trio, the Alexis Kasinos Quartet featuring Marios Charalambous and Eleonora Roussou-Hara will perform. Closing off the performances is a final live set by popular local band Trio Frisson playing at Art Studio 55 at 10pm.
