North investigates 322 fake students

Two Bangladeshis appeared before a court in the north as they are accused of attempting to assist 322 compatriots to irregularly enter Europe.

They are further accused of charging each person €6,000 to help them register as a student in the north but then put them to work on construction sites.

The police in the north told the court that the 322 people who registered as students did not turn up to classes, of whom 21 have been charged with offenses such as illegally entering military zones.

The two main suspects are also accused of charging €150 to show an irregular point of entry into the Republic from Nicosia, near one of the bastions of the Venetian walls, according to Kibris Postasi – as carried by the Press and Information Office (PIO).

The suspects are accused of helping the 322 people come to Cyprus at the start of 2022 after having promised them entry into Europe.
