State service to conduct massive research on salaries for 2022

The study will take into consideration the salaries of 40,000 employees in Cyprus

The Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) this week announced that it has commenced its research on earnings for the year 2022, with the starting date of the project being Thursday, May 25.

The aim of this study is to examine the structure of employees’ earnings. According to the Statistical Service, the earnings survey is one of the largest research projects conducted by the agency and is carried out in accordance with the recommendations and methodologies of the EU’s Statistical Service, Eurostat.

The research serves various purposes, including estimating the general level of hourly, monthly, and annual earnings of employees, and studying the impact of various factors such as gender, occupation, education level, and others on employees’ earnings.

The study also involves calculating indicators such as the Gender Pay Gap and comparing earnings between different groups of employees, such as those working in the public and private sectors, full-time or part-time employees, and more.

In addition, the Statistical Service’s announcement stated that the research will cover 40,000 employees from 2,350 companies across Cyprus, including government departments.

Data collection and recording will be carried out by specially trained enumerators who will conduct personal interviews at the surveyed businesses using portable electronic devices.

Moreover, enumerators will carry a special identification card issued by the Statistical Service, certifying their authorization to collect data.

The data collection period will span seven months, from May 2023 to December 2023, ensuring a comprehensive analysis of earnings trends and patterns across various sectors of the economy.

“This research aims to provide valuable insights into the earning structures of employees in Cyprus and contribute to evidence-based policymaking in areas such as labour market regulations and income inequality,” the service explained.

“The Cyprus Statistical Service is committed to conducting this survey with the utmost professionalism and ensuring the confidentiality of the collected data,” it added.

The results are expected to be released in the following year, providing a comprehensive overview of earnings in Cyprus for 2022.
