Coronavirus: 292 booked for violating measures

Police said they reported 292 people and two establishments over the past 24 hours for various violations of government restrictions designed to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

Officers carried out 16,316 across the island with most fines issued in Limassol, as residents took to the streets to celebrate carnival.

Police said they conducted 5,920 checks in Limassol, booking 109 individuals and two establishments. One of them was later shuttered after it failed to comply with the measures.

In Nicosia, officers reported 56 people during 3,058 checks while 50 were fined in Larnaca where 1,467 checks were conducted.

Twenty-four individuals were fined in Paphos and 22 in Famagusta. Two people were reported in the Morphou area while Traffic officers booked 29.
