Police arrested a 27-year-old man late Friday evening after he was caught driving under the influence of alcohol in the wrong lane on the motorway in Larnaca.

Officers intercepted the man’s car at 11.30pm on the motorway between Kalo Horio and Rizoelia. Police said the man was driving in the right lane of the motorway, towards Rizoelia, when he was stopped.

Traffic at the time was light, police said.

A breathalyser showed 73 microgrammes of alcohol in his breath while the legal limit is 22.

The man was arrested and taken to Aradhippou police station and booked for reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was released to be summoned to court at a later date.
