Environment Commissioner Klelia Vassiliou on Wednesday visited Polemi in Paphos to check out this year’s tulip blooms. Vassiliou was given a tour of the tulip fields by the community leader Charalambos Ioannou.

The flower is included in the agriculture ministry’s ‘red book’ of flora in Cyprus as an endangered species. The plateau between Stroumbi and Polemi is the only area on the island where the tulips grow en masse, apart from a few discovered in the Troodos a few years ago.

Polemi has held a tulip festival every April since 2002, except in 2013 due to the economic crisis, and last year and this year due to the pandemic.
