Fire breaks out in Nicosia rural area

The fire in Lysou

A fire destroyed dry grass and vegetation in a Nicosia rural area, fireservice spokesman Andreas Kettis said on Saturday.

The fire broke out at around 2.45pm between Ayioi Trimithias and Anthoupoli.

Seven fire engines from Nicosia and Larnaca as well as a fire truck from the forestry department are working to extinguish the fire.

Meanwhile a fire that broke out at 12.35pm in the Lofos area in Lisou, Paphos was brought under control by 5pm according to the forestry department.

Two helicopters, two airplanes and eight fire engines assisted the efforts to extinguish the fire.
