Police on Sunday said they seized more than 60 counterfeit euro notes and arrested a 20-year-old man after receiving a complaint by a kiosk owner in Limassol he had been paid with fake money.

According to the police, a kiosk owner reported that he received on two occasions fake €20 bills last Thursday from a teenager who had gone into the shop twice within the same day to purchase various items. The 17-year-old had paid with a fake €20 bill each time he went to the kiosk.

After realising the bills were fake, the kiosk owner called the police that located the 17-year-old. He was questioned in the presence of his parents. Police said they secured a testimony linking the 20-year-old suspect with the case. He was arrested and remanded on Friday for four days.

The 20-year-old, who had two fake €20 on his person when he was arrested, handed over to the case investigators on Saturday another 36 fake €20 bills and 25 fake €5 bills, police said. Limassol police said they continue investigations into the case.
