10,000 sign petition seeking justice in Oroklini cat abuse case

More than 10,000 people have signed a petition aiming to bring to justice a man suspected of killing several cats in Oroklini last winter.

Post-mortem examinations on ten dead cats found in January confirmed signs of abuse, police sources told the Cyprus Mail after the incident.

“In January, a terrible murder of at least 15 cats happened in Oroklini. It is proven that the cats were killed by an individual who was seen by a witness and was recorded by CCTV cameras,” the petition, initiated by Andrey Chepelev said.

Most of the cats were found near the Cat Café behind the Goldfish restaurant in the coastal area of Oroklini.

“It’s been more than six months since the incidents. The killer walks free despite that his identity is known to at least one person and there are CCTV videos of him walking to and from the crime scene. No investigation results have been published,” the petition said.

“Please don’t let this case be soft-pedalled. People who dare to kill helpless animals must not feel safe in Cyprus and the European Union, in general.”
