August rainfall 110 per cent above normal

The rainfall so far in August is 110 per cent of what is normal for the time of the year after the recent rain and thunderstorms, the met office reported on Monday.

According to preliminary data published, the average rainfall between 1-14 of August 2021 rose by 110 per cent with 3.2 mm of rain compared to 2.9 mm, which is the average normal amount of rainfall for the month.

The highest amount was recorded in Lythrodontas with 45 mm – a whopping 1500 per cent above the norm for the area – followed by Gegyri Panagias with 15 mm or 1000 per cent of the normal and Athienou with 19 mm or 760 per cent above normal.

However, in several areas such as Nicosia (Athalassa area), New Port of Limassol Port, Paphos Airport, Polis Chrysochous, Pano Panagia, Platania, Saita, Xylotympou, and Frenaros, there was no rainfall at all.
