Coronavirus: One death and 230 new cases seen on Wednesday (updated)

The health ministry announced one death and 230 new cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday.

A 64-year-old woman passed away after being treated in the ICU at Nicosia hospital, raising total deaths to 535. Of these, 343 were men and 192 women.

There are 108 coronavirus patients in hospitals, 43 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 43 patients, 19 are intubated in ICU and 24 in a High Dependency Unit. Of the hospital patients, 75 per cent are unvaccinated.

Eleven post Covid patients are still being treated in ICU units.

A total of 75,645 tests were carried out by means of PCR and rapid tests with a positivity rate of 0.30 per cent.

Of the 75,645 tests, 5,913 were PCR and 69,732 rapid tests.

The majority, 120 of the 230 positives came from48,421 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 35 more found out of 21,311 samples taken at health ministry testing sites.

A total of 454 cases came from 3,128 samples taken through private initiative, while 283 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases yielded 20 positives.

Five positives came from 302 samples processed by hospital labs, while 227 samples taken through GP referrals yielded no positives.

In addition, 1,973 samples were taken at airports with five positives.

The total number of positives to date is 118,446.

The ‘health ministry’ in the north reported one death and 95 new cases, detected through 13,840 tests in the past 24 hours.

Four of the cases came from abroad, 18 through contact tracing, and 73 were domestic.

Twenty cases were detected in Nicosia, 16 in Kyrenia, 32 in Famagusta, two in Morphou and three in Trikomo.

To date, the north has reported 18,392 cases and 73 deaths.
