Elderly man seriously injured after being attacked

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in relation to an attack on a 75-year-old business owner, that took place on Wednesday morning at his premises in Limassol.

He will appear in court on Thursday.

The 75-year-old man is in critical condition in Nicosia general hospital after he was assaulted by the suspect.

“Limassol CID is investigating a case of attempted murder, which was committed this morning shortly before 8.00am,” Limassol CID head, Lefteris Kyriakou, said to the Cyprus News Agency.

According to the police, the 75-year-old man was in his business with his 72-year-old work partner. An unknown person entered and asked for him, then attacked him and hitting him in the face.

The victim fell to the ground, and the suspect started kicking him in the face, while the 72-year-old was also hit, in his attempt to stop the unknown man.

The suspect then left driving a double-cabin truck, while the two men were transported to the Limassol general hospital.

Due to his critical condition, the 75-year-old was later taken to Nicosia general hospital. The 72-year-old received first aid and was discharged.
