Paphos lifeguards spotted and rescued a pensioner who was drowning early on Saturday.

According to the Kinyras lifeguard club, a lifeguard who was patrolling the coastal road spotted a 70-year-old tourist who appeared to be drowning but was not calling out for help.

The lifeguard, in collaboration with a private water sports company, towed the man to land where he was given first aid, the club wrote on social media.

“Observation and prevention save lives,” the post added.

Last month, Paphos lifeguards rescued a 65-year-old man, who started swimming in deep waters despite warnings from two lifeguards.

The swimmer got tired due to the large waves and eventually called the lifeguards for help, the club said.
