Coronavirus: Nicosia businesses fined €5,000

Three Nicosia-based businesses were fined a total of €5,000 for violating coronavirus protocols in 24 hours, police said on Wednesday.

According to the police announcement, a cafeteria owner was booked for €4,000 for failing to check customers for a SafePass, while a hairdresser was fined €500 for not wearing a facemask and the same amount of fine was issued to a third establishment after the manager was found working without a SafePass.

The fines resulted from 2,883 nationwide checks carried out between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday, during which 19 individuals were also booked.

Police said four people were fined in Nicosia after 1,216 checks, while three persons were booked in Limassol after 277 checks and five in Paphos after 162 checks.

Seven people were booked in Famagusta after 377 checks while no violations were reported in Larnaca or Morphou after 581 and 106 checks respectively.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out a total of 164 checks, without reporting any violations.
