Coronavirus: Nine businesses fined for breaking decrees

Nine businesses in Nicosia and Paphos, and 27 individuals were fined for violating coronavirus measures in the past 24 hours, police said on Saturday.

In Nicosia, five businesses were fined because employees were not wearing masks, and another one because a manager did not have a SafePass.

Meanwhile, two Paphos businesses were fined for serving customers at the bar in violation of the relevant decree, and a third one because employees were not wearing masks.

The fines came after 2,767 checks carried out between 6am Friday and 6am Saturday.

Most checks, 1,205, were carried out in Nicosia where 13 individuals were fined. Four people were booked in Limassol after 209 checks, and two in Larnaca after 454 checks.

In addition, two out of 275 individuals checked received fines in Paphos, while no violations were reported in Morphou after 146 checks.

Most of the violations had to do with people not wearing a mask.

Traffic police also carried out 145 checks without any bookings.
