Army captain remanded for leaking video on container with expired explosives

A 36-year-old army captain was remanded in court for four days on Sunday in connection with publishing military information, after he released a video flagging expired explosives.

Paphos district court heard that the man had leaked the video which was eventually published in a media outlet that referred to a “New Mari”.

The contents revealed there were containers with expired explosives. Court heard they were going to be destroyed, most likely abroad.

An investigation began at the army camp but the case was forwarded to Paphos CID, leading to the 36-year-old’s arrest on Saturday. He was taken to court on Sunday where he was remanded.

His mobile phone and other electronic devices were seized for police investigation.
