Coronavirus: €5,750 in fines for violating health protocols

Police handed out fines totalling €5,750 to five businesses for violating health protocols to contain the spread of coronavirus in the 24 hours to 11:15am Saturday.

The businesses, along with 15 individuals, were booked after 1,960 checks were conducted islandwide.

In Nicosia, 566 checks were carried out, resulting in two individuals and two businesses being booked.

The first business was a bar that violated the maximum capacity allowed based on its size, with the owner being issued a €1,500 fine.

The second fine was for €500 and issued to the owner of a nightclub for overcrowding and not implementing social distancing.

In Limassol, 212 checks were carried out, resulting in three individuals and three businesses being booked.

The first business was a bar whose manager did not have a valid safe pass. The manager was issued a €750 fine.

The second business booked was a company that allowed employees to work on the premises without a valid safe pass. The company was issued a €1,500 fine.

The third business concerned a restaurant where some patrons were allowed entrance without the necessary documentation. The owner was issued a €750 fine.

In Larnaca and Paphos 467 and 24 checks were carried out respectively with no businesses or individuals being booked.

In Famagusta, 354 checks were carried out, with nine individuals being booked.
