Police on Friday reminded drivers that illegal parking causes traffic congestion and increases the risk of accidents as 292 fines were issued in March for such violations.

Of them, 56 concerned illegal parking in places marked for those with disabilities, police said.

Another 104 drivers were booked for parking on a pavement or a pedestrian path, 54 for parking at a short distance from a bus stop or a pedestrian crossing, 15 for parking on the wrong side of the road, facing coming traffic, and another 63 for parking on a single or double yellow line or at a road junction.

Traffic checks, police said, will continue to prevent traffic collisions and to instil good road awareness among all road users.

Illegal parking causes traffic congestion and increases the risk of road collisions and, on the other hand, hinders the safe movement of pedestrians and people with disabilities, the announcement added.
