“June 2022 is a milestone month for the UK,” says St Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in Nicosia, “as celebrations take place across the country and the Commonwealth to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – 70 years of the reign and service of Queen Elizabeth II.”

St Paul’s itself will celebrate this special anniversary with events running from Thursday, June 2 until Sunday, June 5 in the church and its grounds. The programme will kick off on the Thursday at 10am with gardening expert Patricia Jordan delivering a talk in the cathedral about the 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

On the Saturday the cathedral’s car park will be transformed into a UK-style street party running from 5-8pm. Guests are invited to bring along a picnic and tables and chairs should they wish. Food and drink will also be available to buy on site and the imposing 25-piece Royal Signals Band from the UK will delight the crowd with a mixture of traditional and modern tunes. Though free and open to all, attendees are required to register at [email protected] or call the church office (22-445221).

Finally, on the Sunday, St Paul’s Sunday Service at 5pm will give thanks to Queen Elizabeth II for her lifetime’s duty and service to the UK and The Commonwealth. All are welcome to attend and the service will be followed by High Tea in the garden with more musical interludes to mark the occasion.
