British residents entitled to winter fuel allowance

Dear Sir,

Further to the article written by Bejay Browne ‘British residents lose right to winter fuel allowance’, which appeared in the Cyprus Mail on May 15, 2021.

During a recent residents meeting in Kathikas which was attended by the Mukhtar, we were informed that he had just received a letter from the Ministry of Interior which contained the following information.

“The UK has made representation to Brussels on the issue and they found in favour that it was non-compliant with the Withdrawal Agreement”.

As a consequence it has been agreed that British residents will continue to be entitled to claim mountain winter fuel allowance and be paid retroactively for the last two years.

Any further information may be obtained from the British High Commission.

Yours faithfully,

Charles R. Haddad
