Wish you were clean beach clean-up campaign at Mazotos

A beach clean-up ‘Wish you were clean Vol III’ will be held at Mazotos beach, Larnaca on Sunday, the second of four being organised across the island aimed at battling pollution and protecting the natural environment.

This is the third consecutive year that the campaign, co-organised by the Greens’ youth, the Cyprus environment movement, the centre for social innovation and RESET- research and education in social empowerment and transformation, is being held in Cyprus.

The campaign’s aim is not just the elimination of waste from shores but promoting awareness on the significance of coastal pollution.

At the same time, the campaign and the scientific act of recording waste is a reminder of the huge problem of plastic waste (especially one-use plastics) in maritime ecosystems and human health. Recent studies published worrisome results indicating for the first time the presence of microplastic particles in the human bloodstream.

For this reason, the initiative aims to promote volunteerism, collectivism, respect towards nature and the joy we receive when offering back to our environment.

The programme kicked off at Ayia Thekla on June 26 and moves to Mazotos, Larnaca on Sunday July 10, at 9am. The third is at Lady’s Mile, Limassol on Sunday, August 28 at 9am, and the fourth at Lara, Paphos on Saturday, September 3, at 10am.
