Paphos municipality to get tough on noise pollution

Paphos municipality will start issuing warning notices to all business owners using public or private outdoor areas that cause noise pollution to surrounding residential units

Paphos municipality will start cracking down on business owners using public or private outdoor areas for trade that cause noise pollution to surrounding residential buildings.

According to a relevant announcement, the municipality proceeded with the move after an almost unanimous decision by the city council in its last session.

Notices will be served to all owners of premises within the area, who use a public or private outdoor space for the installation of tables and chairs or the conduct of musical events and emit high noise levels, with or without obtaining a relevant permit, that causes nuisance and disturbance to residential buildings located within a radius of several kilometres.

The municipality noted that in the event of non-immediate compliance by owners, it will take drastic measures without further notice in an effort to restore order and did not rule out the seizure of equipment and or the imposition of fines.

In such a case, for any damage, loss or damage caused, the owners of the premises will bear full responsibility and not the municipality of Paphos, since they do not comply with the law by their own responsibility,” the announcement concluded.
