The Animal Party Cyprus (APC) invites pet owners to grab their animal companions and join its members on a walk along the pedestrian walkway in Ayios Tychonas in Limassol on Saturday, July 30 at 6 pm in a show of protest against a local community council dictat that prohibits the free movement of animals along the public walkway.

According to the group, the local council currently has signs posted prohibiting the free movement of animals.

The pedestrian street is public and for its construction was paid by taxpayers. Freedom of movement in public places cannot be an illegality,” the APC said in a statement.

In addition, the APC urged the community council to take down “the illegal prohibition signs” and replace them with appropriate ones, which allow for pedestrians to walk in the area with their dogs, but make it clear that owners who do not have their four-legged friends on a leash or who neglect to clean up after their pet will be prosecuted in accordance with the island’s dog law.
