Livadia fined for safety violations

A fine of €25,000 was imposed by the labor inspection department on Livadia municipality over safety violations at work which led to the death of a worker.

Larnaca district court sentenced the Livadia municipality to a fine of €25,000 for violations of the Safety and Health Management Regulations and the Safety and Health at Work Law that caused the injury of its employees and endangered persons at work.

The violations concern failure to provide and implement a safe working environment resulting in the serious injury of two of his employees, one fatally. They also concern failure to provide supervision during maintenance/pruning operations and failure to provide appropriate information and training to its employees.

In addition, the municipality was convicted for failing to ensure health and safety of employees who worked in the municipality’s external workshops.
