Four remands after dog shot in Paphos (updated)

Four people were remanded for two days by Paphos district court on Tuesday, in connection with a shoot out that killed a dog. Officers are searching for another 22-year-old suspect.

According to Paphos CID chief Michalis Nicolaou, on New Year’s Eve, the 38-year-old reported to officers that on December 10, at around 3pm, he heard shooting and saw that eight windows in his village home were broken.

His dog was also dead as a result of an injury that came from a bullet.

When he looked out of the window, he saw a suspicious car with two men that he knew, aged 26 and 29, whom he reported as suspects.

In a separate incident, on December 29, at 7:20pm he was walking in the Kissonerga area near a kiosk, where two cars stopped. Four people got out of the vehicles, two aged 42, and two aged 28 and 22.

The 38-year-old said they sprayed something in his face and consequently beat him up, also damaging his car. He told officers he knew them.

According to Nicolaou, police also believe the incidents are linked to two arson attacks which took place in the Peyia area recently.

All suspects were arrested except for the 22-year-old, who is still at large.

Investigations continue.
