A 48-year-old man was arrested, after he presented a fake Croatian ID at the civil registry and migration department to be registered as a European citizen, police said on Wednesday.

According to Limassol police, the man visited the migration department on Tuesday, and presented a Croatian identity card, with his picture and other information.

However, authorities determined that the ID was fake as it did not have security labels or watermarks on it.

Police also later discovered another person with the same identification details, who had entered from Larnaca airport with a Serbian passport and overstayed his visitation visa.

The suspicious ID was put through the EU identification system, which showed that it was fake.

During questioning, the 48-year-old allegedly admitted that the ID was fake.

Police received a court-ordered arrest warrant, and he was taken into custody.
