The old Limassol-Paphos road by Petra tou Romiou was reopened to the public on Tuesday after extensive repair works.

Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos inaugurated the reopening where he said the project proved difficult and technical but that “all the problems have been solved”.

He conceded, however, that the work had initially been estimated at €800,000 but finally ballooned to €1.4 million.

The minister stressed the importance of the road for both Limassol and Paphos, particularly in terms of tourism.

The road was closed for repair works to stabilise erosion of the embankment though two sets of retaining walls and other means, such as rainwater management and subsoil remediation.
