The transport ministry on Wednesday approved the installation of a soundwall worth €100,000 outside a primary school in Mosfiloti, near Larnaca, after repeated complaints of loud noise affecting teachers and students.

Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos told the Cyprus News Agency he visited the school and acknowledged the fact that the issue relates to the school’s proximity to a trafficked road.

“I personally noticed how the transit of heavy vehicles impact the lessons at the school,” Karousos said.

“Because students are heavily affected by the noise, the transport ministry decided to approve the request of installing soundwalls on the premises as soon as possible.”

Karousos added that both students and teachers have been informed of the solution and that the matter is now in the hands of the public works department, who will carry out the installation of the soundwall in the upcoming days.
