Explosion in power station near Kyrenia

An explosion took place at the Teknezik power station near Kyrenia on Tuesday afternoon, CyBC state radio reported.

The cause of the blast at around 5.30pm, which injured two workers and caused an electricity outage in the area, is unclear.

The two workers, who came in contact with carbon monoxide, were taken to hospital for first aid and monitoring.

Parts of the Nicosia to Kyrenia highway were plunged into darkness.

Investigations into the cause of the explosion are continuing.
