English School PTA appeals to president

By Staff Reporter

THE English School Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) has sent President Nicos Anastasiades a petition asking for his intervention to reverse a decision to admit the children of board members in the school even if they have failed the entrance exams.

The petition was organised through the Avaaz.org platform and was signed by over 800 people.

The policy allowing board members’ children to be inducted even if they failed the entrance exam had been abolished in 1999.

A press release said the PTA has also asked Anastasiades to replace the chairwoman of the board, Magda Nicholson, because, as they said, her actions were not in line with the fundamental principles of good governance and public office.

The president is also urged to take measures that will ensure more transparency in the school.

In April, the PTA wrote a letter to Anastasiades about the “corrupt practices, self-serving attitudes, lying to the media and submitting false statements to public authorities that are all practices that have been promoted by the Board Chairperson this last year.”
