A Cyprus Airways (CY) flight to Thessaloniki made an unscheduled landing in Athens due to bad weather, it was reported on Tuesday.

Flight CY426 landed safely at Eleftherios Venizelos airport after the pilot judged that the bad weather conditions over the Aegean Sea could put passengers at risk.

The flight had departed Larnaca airport at around 10am and was due to land at Mecedonia airport just after lunchtime

The aircraft stayed in Athens for a while before continuing on to Thessaloniki. It was expected to return to Larnaca at 5.30pm.
