Calling all visual artists

By Maria Gregoriou

Being an artist isn’t easy and the old saying that an artist dies poor may still be true in today’s economic circumstances but, as we Greeks like to say, hope always dies last.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel, and an open call to all Cypriot visual artists out there from the European Mediterranean Art Association together with the Rooftop Theatre group.

The organisers are looking for two Cypriot artists (one Greek Cypriot and one Turkish Cypriot) to participate in a ten-day residency, workshop, and exhibition which will take place during February 9 to 18. The curator of the residency will be Croatian art-world veteran Branko Franceschi.

The two artists will work with three European artists, Ana Elizabet, Paul Devens and Carl Michael von Hausswolff, on the concept of stimulating synapses, and will produce work for an exhibition at the end of the workshop.

The exhibition will open at EMAA Capital Art Centre at the end of the residency on February 18, and it will be transferred to the CVAR Centre for Visual Arts and Research in the old city of Nicosia later on.
Applications can be found and completed online at www.art-confrontation.com until midnight on Sunday.
