Snow expected on Thursday

Snow will fall on Troodos mountain on Thursday, the meteorological service said, a rare phenomenon for this time of the year in Cyprus.

“It is an unusual phenomenon but it happens.  Bad weather is expected in January, February, and March, but it can happen in April too, it’s just rare,” met official Stalo Papachristodoulou said.

There will also be a drop in temperatures, rainfall, and possibly a storm.

The weather is expected to improve on Friday and Saturday.

About two weeks ago, snow and fog in Troodos prompted police to issue warnings to all drivers heading to the mountains.

Snow chains were needed on the Prodromos, Platres and Karvouna roads.

On Wednesday, there will be periods of sporadic sunshine amid increased cloudiness and rainfall with temperatures expected to be 21 degrees Celsius inland, 20 degrees Celsius at the coast and 11 degrees Celsius at high altitudes during the day that will fall by tonight.
