Monday night traffic sweep nets speeders, drink drivers

A 23-year-old man was arrested by police in Paphos on Monday night for doing 114 kilometres per hour in his car in a 50km per hour zone.

Officers detained the man at 8pm on Eratous Avenue. He was taken to the station where he was charged and released.

During Monday night, Paphos traffic police booked 26 motorists for various offences, including 16 for speeding.

Their colleagues in Larnaca handed out 52 fines, including 23 for speeding and three for drink driving.

In Famagusta, police booked 188 drivers, including 42 for speeding and 39 for failure to wear a crash helmet.

Four drivers were done for drink driving.

An addition 142 motorists were reported for various offences on motorways – 106 for speeding. Police also issued 103 warnings.
